Musically, "Inside Out" is a tropical-pop song. Lyrically, the song has been described as a "summer love song". The song received generally positive reviews from music critics, who commended its production. "Inside Out" debuted at 92 in Portugal.

The Atlantic pointed out that, "Yet it’s in the uptempo material when Cabello’s approach best pays off. "Inside Out" is the logical "Havana" follow up, with a jolting piano pattern and pillow-padded dancehall beat in line with the "trop pop" trend of the past few years.
